Potty-Training Series

My sweet, blog friend Tricia and I got to talking the other day about how I potty trained Alea. After questions upon questions, I decided that I better write her and all of you a little how-to series on how I potty trained Alea. After just 5 days, she was accident-free for an entire week and longer! She's still wearing diapers for nap time and bed time, but she usually wakes up dry and wakes up when she's gotta go. We've been crazy successful & if you're having trouble potty training your littles, I want to help ya out!

The number one piece of advice I have for you is:

make sure they're ready.

We've been testing the waters of potty training since Alea was 1 year old. I even mentioned here when she pooped on the potty for the first time at 16 months old. That being said, there's been a lot of potty-talk, if you will, leading up to when I decided to really crack down. I knew she was ready for a while, but being in school I didn't want to start not knowing for sure if she'd tell Maggie, her babysitter, if she needed to go.

So, D-day, or I guess you could say P-day, was the first day of my summer vacation. It was hard, don't get me wrong. It was really hard. And there were tears on both sides and frustration and disagreements between Cory & I regarding technique, but we made it through and talk about perfect timing... No diapers just in time for summer!

Come back tomorrow for the Potty-Training Prep: Everything you need to know to begin potty-training your little!

  1. WOO HOO! :) You made my day. Can't wait to read the rest of your AWESOME series. If it doesn't work, maybe I'll just bring N to you and you can potty train her? ;)

  2. I always love reading how other people have approached potty-training. I wish I could share some wisdom as well, but since Afton essentially did it all herself randomly one day, I don't have any part in it! Ha ha ha!
