I'll spare you the goopy green mess that results from all those gorgeously colored fresh fruits & veggies, but this smoothie seriously amazing. It's gotten my absurdly picky toddler to eat things that she would never ever eat on her own. She's a typical toddler and refuses to consume anything but hot dogs, chicken nuggets and PB&Js and that gives her no where near her requirements of 3+ servings of fruits & veggies per day. It was really stressing me out, until I realized that I could simply just puree everything together and she'd actually be excited to eat something that is chalk full of nutrients! Mommy wins!
Another thing that amazes me, is that since we started doing these smoothies at least once a day everyday, she's eaten better at dinner time. Not that I'm starving her or anything, but she typically gets a smoothie mid-morning or around lunch time and sips on it for a while and then isn't overly hungry in the afternoon. She doesn't seem to snack as much near dinner time and does so well on her dinner now, which used to be a fight almost every night. She thinks that this is a "magic" smoothie because the spinach "magically" disappears, but I think this smoothie is "magic" because it gets my little girl all the vitamins and nutrients she needs + more AND has been helping her eat better!
What are your favorite smoothie recipes? Do you have a daily smoothie regimen?
This sounds amazing, I will have to try it!

smoothies are great! I need to get back in the habit of fixing them for my monster!
ReplyDeleteYou want to know something? I'm 31 and have never had a smoothie. Ready for another confession? I don't like milkshakes. It's a texture thing. But I'm willing to try everything once!!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to give this a try. If I don't like, I'm sure my husband and three kids will love it. :D
Adding spinach/greens is key! Besides affecting the color, you can barely taste it. It's the perfect way to get {hide} veggies! Cottage cheese is a great addition...awesome for protein and because it's blended, the weird texture goes away.

we've had a juicer for a few years but this past christmas we got a nutri bullet and we've been making "bullets" every single day!! it's so good for the kids too!
ReplyDeletemy husband actually wants to start eating almost exclusively fruits/veggies with a minimal amount of proteins--not white flours/carbs. it all sounds good, but it would be a huge change for me!!
Can you taste the spinach at all? I've tried a few with spinach and just can't get past the taste...will give this a try though!
ReplyDeleteYum! I will have to try this with my picky toddler!

ReplyDeleteDaily smoothie drinker here! Love them!
ReplyDeleteTwo of my faves are: almond butter + banana and cherry almond. Both have spinach in them. I also don't do dairy. I add almond milk instead. And I always add a bit of ground flax seed, too!
And here is my tip for all green smoothie drinkers: put your greens on the BOTTOM and then add the rest. The greens will blend the best that way!
After my boyfriend found an old blender in his kitchen last weekend, we have been using it pretty much every day. I made a sauce for his barbecue with it that day and ever since, we've been blending up fruits. He keeps telling me that I'm amazing at making smoothies. haha
ReplyDeleteI use juice instead of milk though.
I might have to try putting spinach in one day. If you can't taste it, I wouldn't mind it.
Ha ha ha I love that Alea is covering her ears! All my kids do that too, it's so freaking cute!
ReplyDeleteFavorite part of this post is Alea reminding us to plug our ears! ;)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds amazing! I must try it out! I don't really like spinach but this sounds good!
