If you’ve been following along, you know we spent a great deal of time creating our vegetable + herb garden at the beginning of the summer. (Or Spring in Minnesota standards apparently). We added a few herbs to our garden, but since then I’ve decided that more are certainly needed. I love using fresh parsley and oregano in my homemade spaghetti sauce so I knew those were two that we would have to add. With the building and construction of our garden bed, it was a little hard to incorporate Alea into the mix, so I’ve been dreaming up ways I can share my love of gardening with her and she can learn a little bit more about gardening while still having fun in the process.
Creating seed starters out of juice boxes has been on my “activities to do with Alea” list for a while. It’s so easy and it’s such a fun way to teach little ones about gardening and how things grow. Alea was very curious as to why I was encouraging her to drink so much juice and why I was saving the boxes beside our sink. I wish you could have seen the big smile on her face when I told her that we had a project that we were going to work on together– boy did that make my little girl happy. Alea loves crafts. And I love that purposeful time we get to spend together. And the Monsters Inc. characters on these juice boxes were just an added bonus!
The one thing I love about this little craft is it requires very few materials, it’s inexpensive, and it’s reusing something you may already have! All it takes is some juice box reconstruction, adhering a label, and adding your own dirt + seeds. Maybe even have your little one paint the juice boxes for some added fun and creativity! Your little will have so much fun watering their seeds everyday and watching them grow. Then you can include them in the “big move” from juice box to garden when the seeds have sprouted and begun to grow!
Alea: “Mommy! Let’s water them so they grow big and strong!”
(After watering each cup) “Mommy, they’re not growing yet.”
Hopefully this will be a lesson in both gardening and patience for my little one.

And I wouldn’t be doing you any favors if I didn’t tell you guys about the Juicy Juice Monster-Sized Giveaway, now would I? I’ve already entered my Juicy Juice codes in from the juice boxes we used for this craft (and since you’re going to make it too, you can do the same, right?) and entered us to win a trip to a family trip to Pixar Studios and a $5,000 cash scholarship! And there’s also lots of instant prizes too! You can also follow Nestle on Facebook + Disney on Facebook as well!
