I’m trying like crazy to grow my hair out again before Cory and I’s wedding in June. It’s almost a bit ridiculous, but I have an entire ritual laid out that I do almost on the daily. Cory’s giving me a hard time for it, but ever since I cut my hair back in July I’ve missed having it long! Maybe not as long as it used to be, but like 3-5″ longer than it is now.
Anyways, one thing I’ve been doing to help accelerate my hair growth a bit, is to deep condition it at least twice a week. Instead of using a store bought deep conditioner specifically for hair, I’ve been using just plain ol’ coconut oil and have been seriously obsessing over it!
My grandma gave me this little tub of coconut oil to try and convert me to it’s wonders over Christmas time and I have to say, she’s definitely succeeded! I’m not sure I’ll ever put it in my coffee or make eggs with it like she does, but I will most definitely rub it on dry skin, use it as lip balm and slather it in my hair as a conditioning hair mask.
Here’s what I do:
I just scoop up a big clump of coconut oil in the palm of my hand– enough to fully distribute through my hair. I slather my ends with it, but never get too close to my scalp. The closer I get to my scalp, the greasier my hair gets even after I shampoo it out. And after my ends are fully saturated in the coconut oil, I grab a hair binder and throw my hair up in a messy bun. I leave it in for 2+ hours while I’m doing other things and then I hop in the shower and shampoo and condition as I normally would.
It’s as easy as that! I’ll share more about my hair growth ritual soon, too. Just you wait, it’s pretty intense. Trust me, if Cory gives me crap for it, it must be good!
Have you used coconut oil before? What do you use it for?
