Thinking | How darn lucky I am. I don’t want to sound proud or like I’m trying to brag, but I’m really excited about everything that 2014 has given me. This has been the best year I think I’ve ever lived and we’re only a couple of months in. I get teary-eyed and emotional just thinking about it. Just weeks before 2014 rolled around, I graduated nursing school and Cory proposed. Now we’re living in Wisconsin, where we’d always hoped to live, planning a wedding and we’re just so unbelievably blessed. I passed my NCLEX on the first try and got a job at a long-term care facility a week later. I’m so, so humbled and I’m so excited to see what else this year has in store for us.
Reading | “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn and let me tell you– this book is amazing. I recently asked for book recommendations on my blog’s Facebook page and for some reason, that title just stood out to me. I immediately downloaded it on my Kindle. I’m only halfway through it and can’t even begin to imagine what’s coming next. It’s the kind of book that keeps you on your toes, makes you feel silly for not anticipating the next turn of events, and it’s incredibly hard to put down. I think you’d love it, too!
Listening | NPR. I feel “old” admitting this, but it’s true. The radio stations in the La Crosse area are absolutely nothing compared to what we had in the cities. It’s really unfortunate. After listening to one radio station that seems to play the same 4 songs every time I’m in my car, I’ve decided to just listen to something more educational. It makes me laugh, though. Growing up, my dad would always listen to NPR in the car and I would always get so annoyed with him. How could you not listen to music in the car? Yep, I’ve come full circle… and I’m maybe turning into my father.
Making | Scarves upon scarves upon scarves with my new knitting loom. If I would’ve known how easy those things were, I would’ve picked one up a long time ago. It’s crazy how easy and how fast the rows come. I’ve known how to knit for a long time now, but I’m a bit impatient and I’m not the greatest at keeping track of my knit-pearl rows or learning new stitches. The knitting loom is so easy to pick up, I just watched a YouTube video and finished my first infinity scarf for Alea within 24 hours. Easy peasy and so addicting! Now I need to get my hands on a round loom and I’ll be knitting oodles of hats in no time. (Just in time for Spring of course! I never said I had good timing!)
Loving | My new bread machine. Do I sound 80-years-old yet? Geez Louise! I made my first loaf just this past weekend and wow! How have I lived my life without one of those things? While bread might not be the best at keeping my waist trim for the wedding, I really love the aroma that fills the house when I have a loaf of bread going. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it!
Craving | Cookie Dough Oreos. I bought my first package a week or so ago and now I can’t find them anywhere. I don’t want to talk about it.
Anticipating | Alea’s first day at her new daycare. Alea will be starting at her first daycare center this week and I’m just a nervous wreck over it. I know that she’s the kind of kid that adjusts really well to new situations and she’s very good at going with the flow (so much more so like her dad than her mom in that respect), but I still can’t help but worry. However, I’m really thankful that we found a fabulous place to send her that also has a preschool program (killing two birds with one stone there) and the location couldn’t be better. My new work actually uses the parking lot of Alea’s new daycare for employee parking– boom! Done!
Now tell me, what have you been up to lately?
