Picture this, I wake up at 4:45am and stumble blindly into the bathroom where my scrubs for work are already laying on the counter. I slip into my scrubs, throw on some make-up, whip my hair into a top knot in 5 seconds flat and then go get Miss Alea up and ready. Once she’s dressed, has her hair done and her teeth brushed, we head downstairs and I put the ice packs in my already prepared lunch box and fire up the Keurig. I get my coffee going while I feed the dog and let him outside and we’re headed out the door by 5:45am. It makes for a hectic morning, let me tell ya! So hectic in fact, that I’ve been forgoing breakfast quite a bit lately. If we don’t have bananas on hand I just choose to go hungry until I find enough time to take a quick 15 minute break at work or I wait to eat when I take my 30 minute break. But on busier days (especially Wednesdays), sometimes I forgo both breaks in order to get my work done and I’m not eating until dinner time.
Not eating breakfast leaves my stomach growling and makes me pretty cranky by the end of the day, so I’ve been on the hunt for some easy grab-and-go type breakfasts! Now I’ve added an extra minute or two to my morning routine, but if it means I have something in my belly before 6 o’clock, it’s a minute or two well spent!
1. Don’t Forgo Breakfast:
I’ve learned the hard way that nobody wins when you skip out on breakfast. Your blood sugar plummets and you’re left cranky by mid-morning and you’re much less productive when you’re being distracted by a rumbling tummy every 15 minutes, right? Right! There’s a really delicious solution to this problem though. I’ve found that Tyson® Day Starts™ products are definitely my favorite grab-and-go breakfast option! They are so tasty and made up of wholesome (not super scary) ingredients! They crisp up just right in the microwave, too, and don’t get soggy like other brands have for me!

2. Always Prep Your Coffee:
Now, when I say prep your coffee, I of course don’t mean to prep the creamer, too. That could get kind of yucky! I always just set out my coffee mug + have my k-cup in the Keurig ready to go. Also, make sure you have your Keurig filled with water. There’s nothing more frustrating than running on a tight schedule and having to fill up the water reservoir. (I know… I know… first world problems!)
3. Lay Out Your Clothes:
I always, always, always lay out my scrubs and Alea’s outfit for daycare the night before. I don’t have a whole lot of options as far as scrubs go, but not having to think about it is just the most amazing thing at quarter to 5 in the morning! Especially when it comes to Alea’s outfit– because you know my little Lou has to be styling for daycare!
4. Pack Lunch the Night Before:
I always load up my lunch box the night before work. Usually after dinner when there’s some leftovers laying around! I try and add lots of fruits and vegetables and some Greek yogurt as well. Yum! It’s so much cheaper, healthier and more convenient than running down the street to the nearest fast food restaurant! And if there’s no leftovers to be eaten, I just throw in a frozen dinner with my ice pack in the morning! Easy peasy!
5. Have Bags + Coats Ready to Go:
This is especially important now on Wednesdays when little miss Alea has gymnastics. I make sure her blanket + pillow case are laid out (and laundered) with her gymnastics clothes and water bottle with a little snack to eat on the way to daycare and on the way home. I also make sure my purse is packed and ready to go as well. I can’t stand having to run around last minute trying to find my keys or my planner.
As you can see, my morning routine may border obsessive compulsive, but being as prepared as possible to walk out the door is my key to a stress-free morning. And the whole no breakfast thing? That’s not even a thing anymore! I’m loving my Tyson® Day Starts™ products– especially the flatbreads– and I’m no longer being distracted by my rumbling tummy during my AM med pass at work!
