While I know I just announced that I was “that mom” that wasn’t going to force the issue on this picky-eating business, Alea has this one silly little picky-eating habit I’m determined to break. This girl used to love spaghetti. Absolutely love it! I have pictures of her from when she was just a chubby little thing, shirtless (because spaghetti messes are scary) and covered from head-to-toe in spaghetti sauce. Now I’m beginning to wonder if she was more into the mess than the sauce, but I have a really hard time believing that something she loved so much before is something she absolutely despises now.
Enter: Noodle-Dipping. It’s exactly what the name says it is. You literally dip the noodles in the spaghetti sauce. I thought it would make it more “fun” if I made multiple shaped Barilla® noodles (we used whine pasta mini penne, plus farafelle, and campanelle) and separate them out into brightly colored bowls along with a bowl of Barilla® Tomato Basil sauce + hopefully she’d be curious enough to try a bite!
The verdict? IT WORKED. IT SERIOUSLY WORKED. Mom: 1, Alea: 0
I thought this was a fun idea and it was just one of those things that was “worth a shot,” but I really, honestly didn’t think my picky eater would fall for it. She gobbled up her first couple of bites and I even heard her say “Mmmm good”! So we decided to put the noodles on a plate and add some sauce on top of them. Sure enough, guys, she ate the noodles like that as well! This is one for the mom victory books!
Maybe now I’ll have to try out my “dipping” theory with more foods, but until then, I’m just happy that she’ll be getting extra veggies from pasta sauce now! And Barilla® sauce in particular is especially wonderful because it really tastes like vegetables being it’s made from all-natural ingredients. That will hopefully prepare her palette for more veggies in the near future. And even better yet? When you purchase Barilla®, you’re also making a difference! When you buy a jar of Barilla® pasta sauce, they’ll donate a pound of fresh produce to Feeding America to support those in need, up to 4.2 million pounds.
