It’s that time of the year where we’re just all becoming naturally more active. It’s one of my favorite times of year, to be honest. I love when everyone starts crawling out of their homes, you start seeing neighbors you haven’t seen since you went into hibernation in the early winter, and it’s staying lighter out longer. It’s a beautiful time and it’s the most perfect time to start getting out and about and getting physically active with you family, as well.
I was so excited when I found these two iBitz activity trackers in my mail on my front step after a long day at work. I was physically, emotionally and mentally exhausted, but I still wanted to crack open the boxes and take them for a spin. Alea and I decided that a walk around the small town we live in would be fun, a scooter ride around the neighborhood would be cool and a trip to the park would just be the icing on the cake. By the time it was all said and done my little Alea with her short little legs walked almost 10,000 steps! Amazing, right?
And she only wanted to walk, run, and scooter even more. That’s saying a lot for a little girl who probably gets more than enough screen time. These little things are such fun incentives for little ones to get active. You just sync it to it’s free iPhone/iPad/iPod app and you get to see the little rocket take off and shoot into the air however many steps they walked.
I wear mine to work every single day and I’m always amazed at how many steps I walk in a day. Just the other day I clocked 15,000+ steps on one of the busiest days I’ve had at work to date. The grown-up app isn’t as cutesy as the little kid’s app, but really, it’s just as motivating. If you’re this close to hitting that next thousand steps you’re going to want to do everything in your power to get those steps in. I’ve found myself doing laps around the house just to hit my daily goal of 10,000 steps. And really, whatever motivates me to keep me moving and get off my butt is fabulous to me!
Now Alea asks me, “Mama, can I go for a walk with my orange thingy?” And I say, “Of course we can sweetie, of course we can!”
Here’s to getting and staying active this summer!
