A couple weekends ago, we made our way as a family to the Twin Cities for a fun and exciting outdoor event that I told you all about in this post. We had a fun little road trip up to our old house and as soon as we got Alea tucked into bed for the night, Cory and I cozied up on the couch and turned on the 10 o’clock news. Because, what else do you do when you’re “old” like us, right? We tuned in just in the nick of time to see the weather. Oh boy, oh boy were we in for a treat: rain all day on Saturday, the day of this fun and exciting outdoors event! What?!?
Needless to say, we were totally and completely bummed, but decided to make the most of our time in Minneapolis and see if we could sneak in some outdoor fun between the rain showers. Unfortunately, it rained all day long, but we were happy to see that they moved the outdoor fun indoors! They did such a great job moving as much as they could from the outside inside. Alea especially enjoyed learning how to cast and catch plastic fish and the different creatures they had available for little ones to pet and observe.
Your eyes do not deceive you. That is my little girl petting a snake! I still can’t believe she was brave enough to do that. She also pet a turtle AND held a bunch of squirmy little bugs. She even said, “Aw mommy, isn’t that bug so cute?” Coming from a little girl who screams a scream loud and shrill enough to shatter the windows when she sees a fruit fly, this was huge! On top of all of the exciting creatures and learning how to fish indoors, Alea absolutely loved the craft table they had set up. This was the activity she was looking forward to the most. Crafts are always Alea’s favorite and crafts that I don’t have to clean up are my favorite, too!
I’m so happy that we didn’t let the rain keep us away for this Get Outdoors Day event with OFF!®. Since rainy weather can be a breeding ground for mosquitos, we were happy to receive our OFF!® towelette samples. We had such a great day as a family and it was such a nice way to step away from the wedding chaos for a little bit and just enjoy one another. I already have all my fingers and toes crossed for beautiful weather during next year’s National Get Outdoors Day festivities so we can go canoeing, paddleboarding and hiking! Those are just activities you can’t really bring indoors when it rains!
How did you and your family celebrate National Get Outdoors Day this year?
