It’s that time of the year again my friends. School is in session– although I’m still in denial that I have a preschooler– work hasn’t slowed down a bit, and Alea has swimming lessons every Tuesday. It may not seem like a lot, but add in the fact that we live about forty minutes away from La Crosse and it feels like we’re always in the car going somewhere and we’re constantly on the move. And with a lifestyle that’s go-go-go, like I’m sure many of you are experiencing, too, we need the tools to make healthy choices on the go as well. It’s not easy, that’s for sure, with a fast food restaurant on every corner and all those center aisles in the supermarket tempting us with all the crunchy and sugary “goodness”.
Making healthy choices isn’t the easiest thing in the world with this on-the-go lifestyle, but I’m trying my hardest to maintain the wedding figure I worked so hard to achieve– even if I do crave cheesy quesadillas and juicy cheeseburgers far too often.
That’s where this awesome, free Walgreens app comes into play! (Thank goodness!)
3 Tips for Making Healthy Choices on the Go:
001. Walgreens Balance Rewards healthy choices app: This app is simply ingenious. It’s similar to other apps I’ve used, but simplified and improved all at the same time. All you have to do is download the Walgreens app and register for an account. Then, you log into the BR for healthy choices section of the app and you’re able to start tracking your steps, weight, blood pressures, sleep, blood sugars, and the amount of water you drink. It’s fabulous! I’ve really enjoyed using it as pedometer and a tool to track the amount of water I’m drinking.
002. Track your Water Intake: If you’re using the Walgreens app I just told you about, sometimes it’s difficult to precisely track how much water you’re consuming. That’s why I use my Nalgene water bottle. It has a nifty little measuring tool on the side so you can track your water intake in milliliters or ounces (when will America join the rest of the world with the metric system?) and I even added a little “water map” for myself on the side so I can make sure I’m drinking enough water throughout the day. This also cuts down on how many bathroom trips I make as well 😉 Since I’m not chugging large amounts of water trying to play catch-up. Smart thinking, huh?
003. Keep Healthy Snacks Handy: I’m always a sucker for a drive-thru. Let’s face it– lots of us are. IT’s so easy to just drive on through and sometimes I think our cars just take control and drive through those nifty little drive-thrus all on their own. That’s what I tell myself anyways. You can curb those naughty cravings by keeping healthy snacks handy when you’re on-the-go. I suggest Clif bars, bananas, and my personal favorite, coconut flavored almonds. Yum! Sometimes it’s just boredom that gets you and you can just snack on something quick and healthy to keep yourself busy and you’ll be fine until your next (hopefully healthy) meal!
It’s no easy feat to making healthy choices when you’re on the move, but hopefully those three tips will help you make healthier choices than you would’ve made without them. If I can do it– you can do it too! I’d love to hear your tips, too! I’m always open to healthy living suggestions. The more tips we have in our arsenal, the more prepared we’ll be to take on those unhealthy cravings!
