Seeing Barbie’s on the store shelves these days just makes me smile. Even to this day, I remember many a trip to Target when I would beg my mom like crazy for this $8 Barbie that I just had to have. My mom would sometimes give in and I’d be lucky enough to go home with a shiny new Barbie to add to my collection. I remember playing with my Barbies for hours on end and begging my little brother to play Barbies with me as well. I mean, it’s fine as long as he played with Ken, right? There’s no other toy as iconic for little girls than The Barbie. Wouldn’t you agree?
I’m so excited now that Alea’s getting old enough to get just as excited and just as obsessed with Barbies. It makes my heart happy and boy was I happy when I found out that I had actually saved some of my Barbies from when I was younger.
Her most recent Barbie obsession comes with this Barbie Endless Curls! You can literally curl her hair with curling irons, little pink curlers, and do all kinds of fun things with her hair. I’ll admit, it’s a little bit of a learning curve to maneuver the small curling iron through the Barbie hair— especially when I’m used to using a regular size curling iron on my own hair, but once you get the hang if it, it’s so much fun.
You can leave her her straight, straighten it even more by running the a curling iron through it straight, give her voluptuous curls, or give her a nice wave. She even comes with a couple of barrettes and hair ties to help you fully customize your doll’s look!
Sometimes I just take a step back and wonder if I’m having more fun than Alea, but then I realize that the time we spend together playing with a toy I used to love and now a toy that she loves is something that she’ll remember when she gets older too. Maybe even years and years and years from now, she’ll be writing a blog post (or whatever they have then) about how her daughter loves Barbie dolls just like she did when she was younger. It’s kind of crazy to think about, you know?
In short, Alea absolutely loves this Curled Hair Barbie doll. In the past week, she’s come to swimming lessons, she eats breakfast with her, she snuggles up with her at night and just the other night she even named her Rose. For a little girl who has minimal attachment to her possessions, she’s certainly taken a liking to this Barbie.
Do you remember playing with Barbie when you were little?
