Ever since having Alea and working my way through nursing school, I’ve completely given-up on reading anything but children’s books. I used to always be reading at least one book for myself and it seems like now the only books I read are when I’m reading Alea’s bed time story or when we’re reading a chapter or two in her chapter books. I mean don’t get me wrong, I love Roald Dahl and I love reading her my favorite classic books that I read with my parents when I was little, but there’s just something to be said for getting lost in a book that’s all my own.
Reading more is definitely on my list of New Years resolutions this year and I’m going to make it a point and make it a priority to do read more. It’s so easy to flip on the TV and watch mindless repeats of shows I’ve seen a thousand times before, open my laptop to get work done and get completely distracted, or get lost on all the silly social media apps on my iPhone. It’s far too easy and while I enjoy doing those things on occasion, I’d love for more of my entertainment to come from books.
I’m hoping that Scribd will help me accomplish my New Years resolution to read more. Not only do they have countless books available for your reading pleasure, but they also have a variety of audiobooks as well. To sign up, you simply visit Scribd and sign up for their 3-month free trial (only available until January 1st, 2015). From there, you’ll create a profile in which you can select which genres of books you like the most. And it doesn’t stop there– you have the opportunity to choose from half a million books and audiobooks!
Scribd would make the perfect holiday gift this year, too. Perfect for those who you’re just not sure to buy for and it’s an easy gift to give last minute! They offer Scribd gift cards that only require a few simple steps to purchase. I know I’ve checked off my very last person on my Christmas list now with Scribd!
Where we live right now, I have a 30-40 minute commute to work every morning. I realize that’s not too far to some, but it’s definitely far enough for me to get a little bored and a little antsy. I can listen to CDs, iTunes and my radio, but listening to an audiobook is far more intelectually stimulating and interesting. That counts towards my New Years resolution, too, doesn’t it? I’m thinking yes!
I’m really, really looking forward to getting more reading done in 2015 and I’m even more excited now that I have the extensive virtual library from Scribd right at my fingertips. I’ve head fabulous things about Yes Please! by Amy Poehler so I think I’ll be starting with her audiobook first! That is… when Alea isn’t driving into work with me! And while she is? Lots of Fancy Nancy books to keep her happy!
