It hasn’t really felt like Christmas is truly coming at all. I mean, I have my Christmas shopping done (for the most part) and I’ve been going a little crazy shopping for Alea’s stocking stuffers, but it just hasn’t felt like Christmas is next week, you know?
We aren’t living in our own house yet and we’re still living with family— which is great and I’m definitely thankful for their hospitality, but at the same time it’s really been taking a toll on my Christmas spirit this year.
My bah-hug ways got stopped dead in their tracks last weekend though when we finally put up the tree. There’s just something about those twinkling little lights that not only light a room, but light up your heart as well.
As I watched Alea put up ornaments with Cory’s dad and seeing the joy in her eyes while doing so, my mood went from bah-humbug to full of Christmas cheer. We’ve never decorated the tree with Cory’s dad before and I could tell he really enjoyed watching Alea decorate his tree. Christmas music was playing from Pandora on Cory’s phone and we were all giggling away at Alea’s ornament placement. (Maybe next year she’ll learn to spread around the ornament love a little more!)
It was in that moment that I realized that even if we don’t move into our rental house before Christmas and even if our house in Minnesota doesn’t sell by Christmas, we’re a family, we’re together and we have a roof over our heads. We are so, abundantly blessed and we have so many things to be thankful for. Christmas will go on and we’ll have an amazing Christmas no matter where we are and what we’re doing. We’ll be together as a family and that is all that matters.
And to completely honest and transparent with you, Cory and I moved at least half of the ornaments Alea put on the tree. She seemed to favor one level and one level only, and thought it would be fun to put ornaments on the same branch… repeatedly. So, yeah we were those mean parents who removed the ornament as soon as she turned around to grab another one, and moved it for her.
Tell me you haven’t done that before. I won’t believe you!
Merry Christmas friends!
I hope you all have a blessed holiday season!
