My goal at the start of every day is to accomplish as much as I can in those 24ish hours. Some of the goals I have for one single day are kind of silly and are a bit much for the amount of time I give myself to complete them. Basically, I set myself up for failure before my day is even started. It’s silly when you think about it, really. I mean, why would I want to set myself up for failure, right?
I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately and what I can do to not only remove these unrealistic expectations from my life, but also still make sure that I’m accomplishing the things that need to get done each day. When it comes down to it, it’s all about how you start your morning. The way you start your morning and the way you spend those first moments of your day set the mood and the sights for the rest of your day. It’s true!
I’ve compiled some of my favorite tips to help get your morning started out on the right foot! Try them out and see how it changes your mornings and your daily productivity.
001. Make Your Bed: I used to never make my bed until I went to bed at night. Then I’d kind of pull the covers up and crawl inside. Lately though, I’ve been making my bed every morning and just checking that one thing off my to do list right off the bat sets the tone for even more to do list checking as the day progresses. It’s amazing! Now I understand why my great grandma always made her bed and encouraged us to do the same. It all makes sense now!
002. Write Your To-Do List: Along with making your bed in the morning, writing everything down that you need to get done in the day can also help to boost your productivity. Bonus points: Write them down in a pretty notebook with a pretty pen. That always helps me stay on task!
003. Coffee + Breakfast: If you know me, then you know I can’t start my day without coffee. Turning on my Keurig is one of the first things I do when I wake up. It doesn’t mean I always get to enjoy my coffee piping hot, but I still just love that it’s the constant and consistent part of my morning. Breakfast is something I’ve always struggled with, though. Okay, maybe not quite that last part, but I’ve been feeling so much better about all of the tasks on my to do list and I’ve been checking them off faster than usual!
