As many of you know, we just moved into our rental home. We finally have all of our belongings moved out of our house in Minnesota (and if all goes according to plan, we should be closing tomorrow– yay!) and we’ve been slowly getting settled. We’ve never really done a whole lot to decorate our bedroom, but I wanted this place to be different. I mean, we’re grown-up adults and all, right?
So, I’ve been putting a lot of thought and been doing a lot of searching for the perfect pieces and perfect things for our bedroom. My goal was to keep it simple, fresh and affordable. Moving into a new, bigger house we needed to purchase a lot of furniture and things to kind of “fill it up.” So our budget hasn’t been as big as I’d like it to be– but I’m determined to make an adorable bedroom for us on a budget!
How do you think I did? Do you think I succeeded?
1. Don’t be Afraid to Ask for Help: And by help, I mean beg your husband to hang up photos for you. I really, really wanted to hang up our photos in our bedroom by myself. And I even attempted to do so. I got out the nails and a hammer and then froze. What if the nails weren’t long enough? What if I didn’t hang it straight? You mean I need a tape measurer too? Oh forget it, I’ll just wait for Cory to get home. That’s usually what happens when it comes to decorating. I pick out the pretty things and then tap my foot while I wait for him to hang them up. And sometimes you just need a constant in your life, right?
2. Pick a Palette: I decided on whites, yellows and greys in our bedroom mainly due to the fact that those were our wedding colors. (And if you can’t tell by my blog, they just so happen to be my favorite colors!) I don’t know if it’s tacky to decorate your bedroom in your wedding colors, but my parent’s wedding color was peach and they had a peach-colored bedroom for I don’t even know how long. It was only natural I do the same!
3. Shop Your House: You see that pretty little succulent plant? I brought that in from our desk area to add a little “greenery” into our room. I use that term lightly because the plant isn’t real. I don’t do real plants. I want to, but it just ain’t happening for me right now!
4. Decorate with Meaningful Pieces: My mom created a beautiful shadowbox for us and gave it to us for one of our wedding gifts. I just love the thought that went into this piece and it’s something I’ll treasure for many years to come. I just rearranged a few things and added a couple of the instax photos our photographer took at our wedding. I just love this piece and I definitely encourage you to incorporate pieces that are meaningful to you into your household decor as well!
The best part of our new bedroom decor, though, has to be our new intelliBED. You probably remember me mentioning our new bed in this post. I’ve received a couple questions from readers just last week asking if we’re still liking the bed and I’m happy to say, my love for this bed has not faltered. My back has never felt better and I really do feel like I’m getting good quality sleep. I really didn’t think that was ever going to be possible after having Alea!
That just shows you what a quality mattress can do for you.
To recap what I’ve mentioned about this heavenly mattress, it literally seeks out pressure points and relieves them. The intelligel layer absorbs the pressure that our bodies put onto the mattress and helps to reduce the amount of tossing and turning you do during the night. Not only does it relieve pressure, but it also “sleeps cool” and it’s non-toxic! That’s just the icing on the cake of how amazing this mattress is my friends!
If you’re looking to sleep better on a non-toxic high quality mattress, I’d definitely recommend intelliBED! You can even use the code: Sunnywith for 10% off your mattress purchase! And look at this pretty new landing page! See anyone familiar? >> click here!
Stay tuned, because two weeks from today, I’m teaming up with a sleep specialist to bring you 5 Tips to a Better Night’s Sleep. It’s been a while since I’ve done a video on this blog of mine, but I’ll be coming at you in vocal + powerpoint form to present some really awesome information to you. We’re going to get all scientific and stuff and the peer-reviewed research nerd in me is squealing just thinking about it!
What’s your decor style?
I”m gonna try these!
