The one thing I love most about our rental home is the gorgeous original hardwood floors in our kitchen, dining room, living room and downstairs bedrooms. When our landlord purchased the home, he got them professionally refinished and they just take my breath away. The floors are made with smaller planks, as well, so you know that the original builders of the home put a lot of time and effort into the flooring! It’s simply beautiful!
We had laminate wood flooring at our previous house and I grew up with hardwood floors in my childhood home, so I’m no stranger to wood flooring. But, I’ve never really had to put a lot of thought into the care of my hardwood floors until now. They’re such a treasure to have, especially with how old they are, so I want to make sure we maintain them and take really good care of them so they can continue to be enjoyed by the other families who live in this house after us.
3 Steps to Cleaning Hardwood Floors:
1. Keep them Swept: This is always a struggle with hardwood floors. No matter how much you clean them, the dust, dirt, and crumbs from little ones always seem to show up within seconds of sweeping. It’s enough to drive ya crazy. But it’s so important to get that stuff swept up as soon as you’re able. Grittier dirt and crumbs can be abrasive to the wood floors and cause small scratches if you’re walking over it with your shoes or you’re dragging a chair across it.
2. Keep them Clean: I recently started using a Bona Hardwood Floor Mop and I’m amazed at the difference I’ve seen in our floors. Compared to the steam mop I had prior and the other mop I was using before, the Bona Hardwood Floor Mop leaves absolutely no streaks and no residue or film. Neither of which can be very good for the floors!
3. Treat them: Bona also has a line of professional grade spray oils and hardwood floor refresher to help treat them. This should be done on your hardwood floors at least every 6-12 months to keep them in tip top, shiny, beautiful shape!
Don’t get me wrong, now. I don’t really love to clean. I like when my house is clean, of course, but the process of getting there has never really thrilled me. But, knowing how to appropriately clean my house– that makes all the difference! I love that now when I’m cleaning our floors with my Bona Hardwood Floor Mop, I’m cleaning hardwood floors how they’re meant to be cleaned while also conditioning and maintaining the beautiful hardwood floors in our home!
Don’t forget to visit Bona’s website for a $3 off coupon and if you take a short quiz to determine your cleaning personality, you’re automatically entered in a sweepstakes for the chance to win a trip to Hawaii. But only enter if you want to make me with you, okay?
