There’s no questions about it, mornings are just plain busy. I’m the kind of person who doesn’t mess around in the morning, either. I never hit snooze, but I get up with just enough time to get myself and get Alea ready in the morning with barely a second to spare. It’s probably not the smartest routine, but I try and savor every minute of sleep I can get!
Since we have very little time to get ready in the morning, I do a lot of prep over the weekend and the night before. I came up with a pretty good system, if I do say so myself, and thought that I would share it with you all today!
1. Lay Out Clothes: I do a majority of our laundry over the weekend. Cory will get a couple of loads done during the week and they’ll be folded in laundry baskets waiting for me to put them away. Then, as I put away our clothes for the week, I also formulate outfits for Alea, making sure to have one for each day of school/daycare. I literally pile them up in order from Monday-Friday and each outfit includes socks and underwear as well as any accessory she’ll wear that day. I do the exact same thing for myself, but it’s much easier when I just have to wear a white scrub top and blue scrub bottoms to work everyday! (Yes, I was always the child in school who thought that uniforms were a good idea!)
2. Pack My Lunch: I always pack my lunch the night before as well. If there’s room, it’ll even be in my lunch box in the refridgerator, but if our fridge is particularly fully, it’ll be piled up on the first shelf ready for me to put in my lunch box that’s sitting open on the counter waiting for me.
3. Coffee Prep: I always make sure that my Keurig’s water reservoir is full and ready to go and my coffee mug is sitting on the kitchen counter waiting for that liquid gold!
4. On-the-Go Breakfast Station: This is the newest addition to our morning routine. I recently upped our breakfast game and made a fun little breakfast station where we can easily grab pre-filled baggies of cereal, bananas, our favorite Nestlé Carnation Instant Breakfast shakes and a to-go cup for the shakes. Having all of these things in one spot keeps us organized and it’s so easy to grab whatever it is Alea wants for breakfast on any given morning.
There you have it. It may not be rocket science, but this system works so incredibly well for us. It helps us stay organized and get out the door on time and I have yet to be late for work (knock on wood)! Alea loves that she can easily choose her breakfast and I love that I have healthy choices all ready for her to choose from.
Some mornings I even make myself a Carnanation Instant Breakfast shake. I love the vanilla flavor and it’s Alea’s favorite flavor as well. They also come in strawberry and chocolate and you can buy them right at your local Walmart!
If you’re thinking of trying these Instant Breakfast shakes or looking to stock up, now’s the time. Currently they have a promotion where if you purchase any two Carnation breakfast products, text a photo of your receipt with keyword BREAKFAST to 811811 or email your photo to redeem@CarnationFreeBreakfast.com or upload it here and they’ll buy you breakfast up to a $7.99 value! You better believe I’ll be taking them up on that offer! And by purchasing Nestlé Carnation products, they’re also donating up to $25,000 to Feeding America.
How do you keep your mornings running smoothly?
