When is the last time you dropped everything and just took your little one to the park with no “time to go home” time in mind? I have to admit, since starting to work I haven’t jumped up and dropped everything to get outside with Alea. And that’s something I’m not very proud of at all. I look back on my photos and I used to be the fun mom who made chalk paint with Alea and finger painted on the daily. But now between working full-time and working on the blog, those free moments are fewer and farther between.
I may not be able to do those things every single day with Alea, but I’m working to do them much more often. I want us to take more time to make more memories together as a family and that’s been my main “summer resolution” if you will.
This past weekend we did just that. I decided to heck with my to do list and that we were going to spend the afternoon at the park– one of Alea’s favorite places! It’s just a short walk from our house and it’s filled with gorgeous natural climbing rocks, picnic areas, a play set, swing set and even an old school jungle jim and old school see-saws. It’s a pretty great park, if you ask me!
And if you ask Alea, she’ll tell you it’s better than Disneyland, I bet!
Before running out the door (because of course when I say the word “park” Alea is practically out the door before I can get out the last letter in the word “park”) I made sure to grab a bottle of water and a couple of snacks. I knew once we got there, we were going to be there a while and Alea was going to work up an appetite! There’s nothing worse than dragging a tired, crabby, hungry kid all the way home from the park to eat. So I had CLIF Kid bars and fruit ropes ready to go for our afternoon snack at the park!
These snacks are great for sustained energy, increased protein and made with great ingredients. They boast no high-fructose corn syrup, no synthetic preservatives, and no artificial flavors. (They’re so good you might steal a couple for yourself, too. Don’t worry, your secret’s safe with me!)
Just check out the CLIF Kid’s video all about getting kids outside to play more this summer. I mean, when I think back to my childhood I remember nothing more than playing outside all day long with all of the neighborhood kids! Did you know that 70% of mom’s played outside when they were kids and only 31% of kids play outside today? It’s almost unbelievable!
The moral of the story? Give your kids the energy to get outdoors with CLIF Kids bars and fruit ropes and LET them get outside and explore their environment and use their imagination. I guarantee you’ll both have a smile on your face when play time comes to an end!
How often do your kids play outside?
