Before you look at the photos below, I just want to tell you what it actually took to take them.
Cory got everything set-up in our living room before this photo was taken. Just feet away is a photo set-up area for me to take photos for my blog. It’s a total mess. That photo above our fireplace? It was hung for the first time just moments before this photo was taken and we’ve lived here since December of last year. Alea was excited to take our family photo, but her mood took a turn for the worse when she wanted to bring her baby into the photo, but couldn’t find her baby’s other slipper. After cleaning her playroom and looking all over the house for it, a temper tantrum erupted when it was not located.
That silly face photo? Yeah, that was a bribe to even get her in front of the camera!
But, that was the ice breaker. Smiles showed up on everyones faces and giggles were had! Then it was back and forth between the Christmas tree and the tripod (which was balanced on an empty box on top of a chair at the other end of the living room) to set the self-timer. It was quite the hustle, let me tell ya, as we were losing daylight fast!
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the “perfection” of Christmas cards and the smiling faces, the perfectly posed families and wonder how in the world they’re so picture perfect. You look up from the card and you have a sink full of dishes, you’re a week behind on laundry and your little one is running around the house in her underwear. Please don’t let those smiling faces fool you. There was likely a screaming kid moments before the photo was taken. They probably have a sink full of dishes and mountains of laundry in the other room as well. You’re not alone. You’re life isn’t perfect and neither is theirs– no matter how perfect it looks in that Christmas card photo.
This year’s Christmas photo took place in front of our tree, in my favorite room in our house, with two of my favorite people in matching slippers from Famous Footwear. It doesn’t get much better than that.
I’ll keep you posted on the final Christmas card design we choose, but until then, we’ll just be staying cozy over here in our matching slippers! I really contemplated buying us all matching pajamas for our Christmas card photo, but I figured Cory would probably have a coronary. And I like him, so we just couldn’t have that, now could we!
Oh, and one more confession! I made us all go out for dinner after we finished taking these photos. Because, after all, it was a weekend and I had to put pants on. And we all looked pretty spiffy, too!
