With a dog, a 5-year-old, a husband, and being a bit messy myself, let’s just say our floors and carpets in our home aren’t always the freshest. Our dog, Bentley, a chocolate lab sheds more than any other dog I know, so we’re constantly vacuuming just to keep up with him. It’s a struggle, ya’ll.
The last thing I want my house to smell like is messy humans and dog, so I’ve decided to get a little creative and make some homemade carpet freshener. This is completely non-toxic and made of ingredients you can probably find around your house and at our local health foods store. It’s insanely easy and I threw this together in probably 5 minutes, if that. I probably spent more time on the pretty little label, than the actual mixture itself. Let’s be real.
DIY Carpet Freshener
1. 1 cup of baking soda
2. 20 drops of your favorite essential oil (I used Purification, Bergamot and Lemon for a fresh, clean scent)
3. Parmesan shaker
1. Combine the ingredients above in your parmesan shaker.
2. Cover the holes and shake to thoroughly mix the essential oils with the baking soda.
3. Sprinkle over your carpet and let sit for 15-20 minutes.
4. Vacuum up!
It’s so easy, you’d be crazy not to whip up a batch of this fresh smelling carpet freshener. Your carpet will feel, smell, and look cleaner! The scent will be a bit strong at first, but after you vacuum up the mixture, it will fade and not be quite as strong. The fresh scent will linger for some time though, leaving your house smelling so fresh and so clean!
It may sound silly, but a new vacuum can really change a person. As soon as I got the battery charged in my Hoover Air™ Cordless Lift Upright Vacuum, I was immediately inspired to vacuum any and every vacuum-able surface. The best part? This vacuum DOESN’T HAVE A CORD. I can’t even begin to tell you how freeing that is. There’s just something about wrestling a cord, trying not to run over a cord, and not having enough cord that can make vacuuming a bit of a stressful chore. Not only is this vacuum cord-free, it also can be removed from the stand, so you’re just carrying the canister and the suction tube. This makes it a million times easier to clean stairs and furniture! I think next on my list is the Floormate® Cordless Hard Floor Cleaner, but I’m also pretty partial to the Air™ Cordless 2-in-1 Stick & Handheld Vacuum– both of which are both part of Hoover’s new line of 4 cordless cleaners! Which Hoover Cordless Vacuum would you choose?
What essential oil scents would you use in your DIY carpet freshener?
