Cory and I were lucky enough to take a belated honeymoon to Florida for 5 days last week– trust me, much more to come on that vacation later. It was a great time and we had a blast reconnecting as a couple, but throughout the whole trip there was something missing. That something being our sweet little Alea. We brought her home some fun souvenirs, but decided that we also needed to have some serious family time as soon as possible after getting home!
We decided to get a little silly and celebrate the release of the Inside Out movie at our party and create a fun family emotions book by taking Instax photos on our own backdrop. After the photos were taken, we created a little album to display each different emotion character from the Inside Out movie!
DIY Photo Backdrop Set-Up:
It’s easier than you might think. We used a tri-fold screen and a cream colored blanket to create our backdrop. No props needed with this specific photo booth photo shoot, but if you’re having an Inside Out birthday party, there are some very fun Inside Out toys available at Walmart!
DIY Emotions Book with Instax Photos:
With just a hole punch and a silver ring along with the instant photos we took in our photo booth, we added “emotions” labels to each photo. Then we looked back and flipped through our photos and reflected on the emotion names, the emotions we created on our faces and what each of those emotions entails. It really sparked some great conversation with Alea regarding our feelings and really supplemented what she learned in the movie as well.
Experiencing a world of emotions on our vacation is what sparked the association of emotions and sparked the idea to have a little family return party with Alea while also debuting the movie Inside Out for our family. We experienced so much joy at the beach, but also sadness that Alea wasn’t there with a shovel and pail elbow-deep in the sand! I’m sure Alea experienced nothing but joy while she was at Grandma’s house, though!
Needless to say, Alea loved the idea and she was over-the-moon excited when I told her we would be headed to Walmart to purchase the Inside Out DVD! Next we’ll be headed out to get the Inside Out toys as well!
How do you teach your little ones about different feelings and emotions?
