As much as I love the holiday season, sometimes it’s just far too easy to get caught up in the holiday hustle and bustle. There’s gifts to buy, Christmas cards to send out, cookies to bake, rooms to decorate, lights to hang, and on top of it all, you’re still expected to go to work, pay the bills and just be an adult in general. No pressure or anything, right?
I’ve been trying to “center” myself, if you will, and I’ve been trying to remind myself of the true spirit of the season. Sure, I still have a bajillion things on my to do list, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy myself while I’m checking each item off of my list, right?
one | Enjoy the Holiday Decor: We were in the middle of moving into our rental home last year during Christmas, so we never really got to truly enjoy the very few Christmas decorations we did put up. We put up a tiny tree and called it good. This year? We’re slowly putting up our Christmas decorations and I’m truly loving how everything is coming together. I’ll share a little holiday home tour post very soon– just you wait and see!
two | Listen to Christmas Carols: As soon as the leftovers are put away after Thanksgiving, it’s time for Christmas music, right? While we did put our Christmas tree up before Thanksgiving tomorrow, I decided to hold out on the Christmas music until after Turkey day. It wasn’t easy, though, let me tell ya! You can’t not be in a good mood when you’re listening to Christmas music, right?
three | Eat Delicious Snacks: I’m all about all of the yummy sweet treats during the holiday season, but this year I’m trying to remember to eat a little healthier. These Sahale Salted Caramel Apple Pecan Layered Nut Bars are to die for. I’ve been bring them to work and enjoying them with a cup of coffee on my days off– and each one is so flavorful. These have a top layer of crunchy, dry-roasted nuts on top of creamy cashew butter and then drizzled with real chocolate. Bonus? Sahale is all about sustainability. Read more on that HERE.
four | Slippers + Holiday Magazines: One of my favorite parts about the cooler weather is getting to wear a fuzzy, cozy pair of slippers. So, so much better than bare feet! The holiday magazines are starting to hit shelves as well and I’m all about flipping through the perfectly staged and crafted holiday decorations and dreaming up how I’ll decorate the house for next year!
five | Coffee: Need I say more? If I have to get through that never-ending to do list, I gotta have a cup of coffee (or two) first. No buts about it! I can’t be the only one that finds the more cups of coffee I have, the more things get crossed off of my to do list, can I?
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in all of the to-do’s and need-to-get-dones of the holiday season, but I hope you’ll join me in enjoying the little things the holiday season brings. Because, once it’s gone, it’s gone. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts, don’t you think?
How do you survive the hustle and bustle of the holiday season?
