A couple of weeks ago, Alea had not one, but two snow days in a row! We got way too much snow here in our part of Wisconsin and I wasn’t even able to make it into work because the roads were so bad. So, the two of us set out to really enjoy our snow day together and I have to say, that’s exactly what we did. On day two, we made snow ice cream, played in the snow, sledded down our small little hill, made homemade play dough, played games, did puzzles and I just had so much fun spending every minute I could with my little girl.
I have to admit, though it was a lot of fun, it made me really miss being a stay-at-home-mom. I don’t get time like that with Alea like I used to. We used to do lots of crafts, activities and we used to go on lots of mommy daughter dates together. I miss those times. I realize that now, since Alea is in school, we wouldn’t have those times together other than snow days and days off, but boy would we have a blast on those days!
Here’s our little rendition of the fun snow ice cream! It was actually really, really delicious!
1. 6 cups of snow
2. 1 cup of milk
3. 1/3 cup sugar
4. 1 tsp vanilla extract
5. Pinch of salt
1. Whisk together the milk, sugar, vanilla and salt. I sent Alea out to collect our snow while I did this step with specific instructions of where to get the snow from to ensure a clean batch!
2. Add snow to mixture and mix with a spoon until the snow is thoroughly coated with the vanilla/milk/sugar/salt mixture.
3. Serve immediately with a dash of sprinkles– because you can’t have ice cream without sprinkles!
Alea thought it was just about the coolest thing ever to make ice cream out of snow! I was actually impressed with how well it tasted and I think we would make it again in a heartbeat. It’s really too easy not to. I highly recommend using freshly fallen snow. I wouldn’t want to eat snow that’s been sitting around for a couple of days… you never know what you would find in there!
This is such a fun thing to whip up with little ones– trust me! They’ll love it!
Have you ever made snow ice cream before?
