One thing I’ve always tried to instill in Alea as she grows up is the importance of giving back to others and giving back to our community as well. I try my best to show her that it doesn’t take a ton of money to make a difference in someones life and I have to say, judging by Alea’s love of giving, we’re doing a pretty good job of it! We’re always getting reports from her teacher that she’s always so willing to help her out in class and so willing to help the other kids as well.
Recently, for a homework assignment for school, Alea had to think of 1 random act of kindness to do and share with the class. We did some serious brainstorming and finally decided to bake chocolate chip cookies and put them in the mailbox with a thank you card for the mail man! It completely made her day to plan and do this and we sure hope it made our mail carrier smile!

I used to be able to help out cooking at my old church for the soup kitchen, now I can’t get there anymore, no car. But I make craft items for disadvantaged kids and homeless. I make fabric flower accessories, cute pillows from t-shirts that have pictures/words or heart pillows, double fleece mittens and hats, I used to make dresses for mothers and babies (also bonnets & diapers) in Haiti. I like to wrap up the little presents and give them to people not expecting anything, they are things that you don’t really “need,” but are fun. Some teen girls would rather have a flower for their hair than a pair of shoes they really need.
