It’s no secret that we just moved in March. I’m beyond thrilled with our home and we’ve slowly, but surely been getting acclimated to our new space. We still have a whole lot of work that we need to get done, but I’ve grown to be okay with it taking a little time to get things just how we like them. We’ve slowly been adding new furniture pieces and really trying to find things that are suitable for our space. We don’t plan on moving for a long, long time and that’s saying a lot considering in Alea’s 6 years of life, we’ve moved 5 times! How crazy is that?
With 5 moves under our belts as a family (and a couple more under mine since I left for college at 18) I’ve grown pretty accustom to the necessities of moving and what a good, organized move entails.
That being said, here are my top 3 moving tips!
1. Lists Are Your Friend: Make a list for each room of things that you need to unpack. Make sure you label each box as you pack so your movers or family and friends helping know where those boxes need to go. Labeling and lists may seem tedious in the moment when you just want to get everything done, but trust me, they’ll completely save your sanity when it comes time to unpack.
2. Freshen Up the Space First: Before you start bringing things into the house or apartment and unpacking, make sure you give it a good clean first. If they haven’t been already, shampoo the carpets, toss the curtains in the wash with some Tide® PODS, clean the hard floors with Swiffer® Wet Mop and spray some Febreze® Unstopables spray. Making sure things are so fresh and so clean before the space gets cluttered with boxes and bins will help make the unpacking process a little less stressful. Trust me!
3. Don’t Forget the Essentials: Have you ever moved into a home that didn’t have a roll of toilet paper in the bathroom? I have and it’s miserable. You get to the house and realize you have to pee and there’s no toilet paper? There’s nothing worse! Pack your Charmin® on the top of a bin or box so you know where it is if nature should call! Also, when it comes to cleaning counters and bathrooms when you move in, you absolutely must remember to grab the Bounty® paper towels!
The best and easiest part? You can find all of these essentials at Walmart! I don’t know about you, but I’m usually already there for one thing or another a couple times during the week!
Moving can be such a stressful time. There’s so much to do, so many things to take care of, so many i’s to dot and t’s to cross. It gets to be just plain overwhelming! If you’re pulling your hair out over a move right now or an upcoming move, trust me. I get you. It’s not easy, but with the tips above and a little bit of coffee, this too shall pass and before you know it you’ll be all settled and cozy in your new home!
