I’ve been busy nesting around our house these past couple of weeks and I’m actually amazed at some of the things I’ve been able to get done. I may not have my hospital bag packed yet, but all the baby things are assembled, the nursery is starting to come together and I’m finally starting to feel like we may actually be prepared to welcome this sweet little girl into our home in the coming weeks. I’ve probably said this one hundred times by now, but I truly can’t believe that our dreams are finally coming true. I can’t wait to hold that sweet girl and see Alea become a big sister. We’ve waited so long for this!
In addition to getting the nursery set-up and the bassinet in place in our room, I’ve also made little “baby essentials kits” for around our house. Our house is about 10 times bigger than the town home we brought Alea home to and there’s so many more spaces for us to be in. I’ll share with you the must have items in each kit that I have stored in the nursery, our bedroom, the upstairs living room and the downstairs family room.
I mean hey, you can never be too prepared for breastfeeding sessions and dirty diapers, right?
Here’s what you need for this super easy to toss together baby essentials kit. Make one for each of your main living spaces or the areas of your home you’ll likely be spending the most time in after baby comes.
1 | Changing Pad | I don’t know about you, but I don’t necessarily want to change diapers on my couch or on my carpet. Having an inexpensive changing pad in each kit is an absolute must in my eyes. If you don’t have one handy, you can always just use a towel. I like using the changing pads though, because they wipe clean so easily!
2 | Diapers | If there’s one thing baby needs, it’s diapers. That, my friends, is why I’ve stocked up on Diapers like you wouldn’t even believe. No seriously, I’m actually embarrassed to admit that I’m 90% sure we’re stocked in sizes Newborn to 2.
3 | WaterWipes | These wipes are my absolute favorite. I started keeping them around the house for wiping off Alea’s face and I love that they’re a chemical-free baby wipe containing only two ingredients: 99.9% pure Irish water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. WaterWipes are seriously strong wipes that can withstand a mess and I love that they’re a natural option! And much like how I am with diapers, I also stocked up on Water Wipes at Walgreens– they come in big 60-count packages and I’m not going to divulge to you how many I have stored in her closet right now!
4 | Diaper Cream | If your little one’s bum is getting red, you don’t want to be too far from a good diaper cream during a diaper change. I just bought a bunch and put them in my kits around the house– this way they’ll always be available if we’re battling one of those dreaded rashes.
5 | Nipple Cream | This is my absolute cannot live without nursing-mama-must-have. Literally I cannot eat, sleep, or breathe without this stuff when I’m nursing especially in the beginning days. This needs to be within arms reach at all time!
6 | Burp Cloths | Another thing that needs to be within arms reach are burp cloths. There will be the inevitable baby spit-up stained t-shirt moments, but these definitely help keep that mess a little more contained.
7 | Receiving Blanket | We’re having a winter baby and I know blankets are going to be much more important than they were with Alea! I have cute little photo-ready blankets in each kit. Instagram– beware!
I’ve got a fun giveaway for ya’ll today, too! You can enter for the chance to win 1 of 5 $100 Walgreens gift cards so you can create your own baby essential kit. Wouldn’t this make the perfect baby shower gift? You can enter now through October 7th! Good luck!
