Can I just say it?
I can’t believe that I’m actually twenty-seven years old today. Well, I guess I can kind of believe it because I’ve already been telling people for months that I’m twenty-seven. There comes a point in the year where ya just start rounding up, you know?
Sometimes I feel like I still have so far to go and so much to accomplish, but then sometimes I sit back and realize how much I’ve accomplished in my twenty-seven years of life. Especially in the last 7-or-so years. That’s when my life really seemed to start, after all.
Almost seven years ago is when our sweet little Alea came into our lives. And since then, we’ve moved several times, I went to nursing school, survived nursing school and graduated. We got engaged and then married 6 months later. I became a nurse in a nursing home and then at the hospital/clinic I’ve always wanted to work at. Just this past year we bought our maybe-forever home and just recently we welcomed our sweet little Kenna Rae into our family after many years of hoping and praying for her. I feel so blessed to be where I am in my life right now.
To celebrate my twenty-seven years of life, I thought it would be fun to write a list of twenty-seven random facts about myself.
one//The Beatles: I’m a huge Beatles fan. HUGE. We were actually think of naming Mckenna “Abbey” after the Beatles album Abbey Road and some days I’m sort of sad that we didn’t! (She’s a Mckenna/Kenna through and through, though.)
two//My Most Embarrassing Moment: During my orientation in OBGYN in the clinic I passed out while watching a procedure. And not just a dramatic “throw my head over my head” fainting episode. I literally blacked-out, hit my head on the wall next to me on my way down and then slammed my head on the floor. The next thing I remember I’m being helped out of the procedure room by a medical assistant and nurse and the patient is asking me if I’m okay! NOT my proudest moment as a nurse!
three//2011: May of 2011 is the month and year of when I started this dear old blog. There’s been many ups and downs and sometimes (like most recently) where I haven’t been very faithful to this space of mine, but I don’t see myself ever being able to leave this space. (Please never look back to that first post. Embarrassing.)
four//Two Tattoos: I have two tattoos. I got the key on the lower right side of my back on my eighteenth birthday and the “let it be” on my left side/rib cage on a whim one day in college. Even nine years later, I still love them both.
five//Caramel Macchiato: My drink of choice at any and every coffee shop.
six//Brown Thumb: I always fail miserably, but every summer I try to grow my own vegetables and herbs. Chances are, I’ll try and do the same this summer and with my record, I probably won’t making salsa with my homegrown veggies in the fall.
seven//BSN: One of my goals this year is to start my bachelors program. I graduated with a two year degree in nursing and with my current job I’m required to get my Bachelors of Science in Nursing within 6 years of my hire date. Time to get started!
eight//Incubus: The best concert I’ve ever been to. They put on an amazing show.
nine//Eggs over Easy: If I was forced to choose one thing to eat for the rest of my life it would be two eggs over easy on toast with avocado. THE BEST EVER.
ten//Every Other: I only shower every other day. I can’t stand taking a shower everyday. Plus, my skin gets so dry and irritated if I do. It’s just not work it in my book. And I swear I’m not stinky!
eleven//Journalism: I originally wanted to go to school for Journalism. I wanted to be a reporter and eventually be a news anchor on TV. Now that I think of that, I can’t even imagine being on TV. I do not like to speak in front of a camera, so that wouldn’t work out very well!
twelve//Cavalier: My first car was a red Chevy Cavalier. I still remember the license plate number and I think we actually have the plates in a box somewhere. I remember the day I got my drivers license, my dad picked me up from school and took me to the car dealership. I didn’t think anything of it because he was looking for a car for me for a while. Well, after we got out of the car he pointed to a shiny red car and said, “How about that one?” and then we went inside and signed the papers! Turns out he had already been at the dealership getting it all figured out! That’s definitely one of my happiest memories.
thirteen//Car Washes: I’m scared of car washes. There, I said it. I think it’s a combination of being in the small enclosed space of the car wash and then not being able to see out of the car when it’s covered with soap suds. Just thinking about it makes my heart race! Cory’s definitely in charge of taking our vehicles through the car wash!
fourteen//Jeans: I know I’m not the only person that despises jeans. I don’t understand how some people find them comfortable. As soon as I get home, even if I’ve only worn the jeans out to the grocery store, I immediately change into leggings or yoga pants within minutes of getting home.
fifteen//Band: I used to be in a band. If you can even call it that. I played the guitar and was super proud of my bright blue electric guitar I bought from one of my friends. I could only play a few chords and we only had band practice like twice, but boy did we think we were cool! Ha! (I don’t even think we had a name?)
sixteen//First Sip: My first taste of coffee was when I was approximately four years old. My great grandpa poured some on a saucer and let me dip sugar cubes in the coffee and eat them. He did this with all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren. I think we can all attribute our coffee addiction to this special memory!
seventeen//Out of the Country: I’ve never been outside of the country, but I have visited 9 states.
eighteen//Vegetarian: In high school I was a vegetarian for over a year before I called it quits. All for a cheeseburger.
nineteen//Avril: I used to be just a little obsessed with Avril Lavigne. And when I say obsessed, I mean I had posters and magazine clippings of her covering every inch of my bedroom walls. (EMBARRASSING!)
twenty//Lennon: Going back to my love of The Beatles, I wanted to name Mckenna Lennon so bad! I just couldn’t get Cory on board.
twenty-one//Lists: Sometimes I can’t think without making a list. I make lists of lists I need to make. Lists just keep me sane!
twenty-two//Minnes-O-ta: If you’ve heard me talk before, you know I’ve got that Minnesota long “O” sound down. I just can’t hide it! #MinnesotaProud
twenty-three//Grey’s Anatomy: I’ve been watching Grey’s since it’s birth a million seasons ago and I still can’t get enough. Is it Thursday yet? (Am I the only one that’s a little annoyed it’s on at 7pm now instead of 8pm?)
twenty-four//Real Simple: Real Simple Magazine is LYFE. I love everything about it. The layout, the photos, the recipes, the organization tips. Now if only I actually put a few of those tips to work…
twenty-five//M & M: My 3 best friends live in 2 different states. Jenn, Bobbi and Emma oh how I love you ladies. I wish we were closer and could meet for coffee and girls nights. If only Minnesota and Michigan were a little bit closer!
twenty-six//Casablanca: One of my all time favorite rid-or-die movies is Casablanca. There’s just something about that classic black and white love story that pulls at my heartstrings. Here’s lookin’ at you kid. (A close second, given my Beatles obsession, is Across the Universe of course.)
twenty-seven//Future: I’m not really sure what the future holds for the next 27 years, but I do know that Cory and I share a whole lot of hopes and dreams. We see ourselves as possibly adding a third baby to our family, possibly building a house, and I have some goals for my nursing career I’m not quite ready to say out loud and put into the universe. Big things, guys. Big things. That’s all I see up ahead.
And if you’re still reading, you deserve a prize. Seriously. That was actually 100x’s harder than I thought it would be! I may have gotten stuck at #15 and had to request facts about myself from Jenn and Bobbi (the sweet ladies I mentioned above). You know you have good friends when they know you better than you know yourself!
Here’s to the next 27 years…
And since it’s tradition…
