I don’t think I’ve mentioned this here before, but we are huge Box Tops for Education collectors in our household. I may or may not buy products specifically because they have a Box Tops label and I may or may not have sent Alea to school with a snack baggie full of Box Tops in her first few weeks of school and ever since then we’ve been working on building up our Box Tops collection.
We’ve made it work with collecting our Box Tops in a plastic snack baggie in a drawer in our kitchen. I clip the Box Tops, put them in the baggie and they’re good to go. But sometimes I feel like Box Tops get forgotten when Alea or Cory tosses out the boxes, so I wanted something that we could collect our Box Tops in that could be featured in a more prominent spot in our kitchen AND that wouldn’t break the bank.
Alea helped me do some brainstorming and we decided to repurpose a Mott’s Medleys® Fruit Snacks box to create a decorative envelope for our Box Tops collecting! I think it turned out pretty darn cute, don’t you?
1. Mott’s Medleys Fruit Snacks box
4. Hot glue gun
5. Silver spray paint
6. Chalkboard paint
7. White chalkboard pen
We grabbed all of our materials, plus some extra snacks during our weekly trip to Walmart. Since we were in need of some snack-y foods for the girls we also grabbed Honey Nut Cheerios™ (Mckenna eats these every morning for breakfast), Nature Valley™ Oats N Honey Granola Bars, Annie’s™ Cheddar Bunnies, Mott’s Medleys® Fruit Snacks and Alea’s personal favorite, Pillsbury™ Toaster Strudel™.
1. Cut out your box into two pieces as shown below– don’t forget to cut out the Box Tops!
2. Fold at the bottom and the sides of the one piece.
3. Adhere the sides to the bottom with a hot glue gun.
4. Adhere the second piece to the first piece along the 3 edges (both sides and bottom) leaving the top open.
5. Spray paint the envelope silver and let dry thoroughly.
6. Paint a rectangle of chalkboard paint onto the center of the envelope.
7. Write “Box Tops” on the chalkboard paint once completely dry.
And ta da! Complete!
